Card Readers

The previous flow supported card.io, which often failed to read credit card numbers in a low lit environment. Lots of volunteers, frustrated with the app, had to type in credit card numbers manually, which significantly slowed down the lineup.

We decided to remove card.io’s setup and encourage people to use one of our card readers instead, or focus on manual entry. We continued supporting the Stripe Terminal, since it’s reliable and serves our large event organizers. The problem is that Stripe is an expensive solution that not everyone can afford.

After some interviews, we discovered that most of the event organizers already had a different 3rd party card reader. We decided to build support for these devices.

The latest data shows that 3rd party terminal devices are now the most used card readers.
